La Bicicleta Verde

LBV is an eco-tourism startup located in Santiago, Chile, best known for its cycling tours and adventure treks. The owners, Peter and Joel, founded the business as a way to showcase their “beloved city in an ecological and unpolluted way”. While studying abroad in Santiago in the spring of 2019, I joined the team as an internal/corporate strategy intern.

The Ask

Research potential for expansion in the following sectors: luxury tourism and the meetings and events industry (MICE).

The Strategic Approach

  • Desk Research & Industry Outlook

Examining best practices and benchmark examples both globally and on a regional level, helped me to understand the major opportunities and challenges across the two industries.

  • Stakeholder Interviews

Interviewing internal stakeholders such as the founders, head of operations, and on-the-ground tour guides served as a useful method of understanding limitations and areas of growth within the company. Talks with external stakeholders such as vendors and partners also provided valuable perspectives.

  • Final Analysis & Recommendations

The final outcome of this project was a comprehensive handbook with next steps and how-tos for success in expansion into luxury tourism and meetings and events.

Following the conclusion of this project, LBV successfully launched both luxury tourism and meetings and events verticals in December of 2019.
